SJ Chemical's Preservatives for Cosmetic Formula line is a synthetic, multi-functional preservation system built on phenoxyethanol, 1,2-hexanediol and caprylyl glycol, and engineered for broad-spectrum efficacy across rinse-off, leave-on and color cosmetics.
SJP-PEHG(B) and SJP-CGEHG(B) add ethylhexylglycerin, which helps the actives penetrate microbial cell membranes. The result is stronger preservation with a lower load of the primary preservative.
Alkanediols such as 1,2-hexanediol, pentylene glycol and caprylyl glycol have an amphiphilic structure that weakens microbial membranes. They also moisturize, solubilize and help adjust viscosity.
These ingredients stay stable across a wide pH range and blend well with many formula types, from skincare and color cosmetics to sunscreens, wet wipes and household products.
SJP-1,2HD in particular is a high-purity (99.8–99.9%), low-irritation, odorless grade that barely affects fragrance or texture, which makes it ideal for "preservative-free" concept formulas that replace conventional preservatives.
